Ok – we’ll define ‘Seniors’ loosely as anyone age 65 or more because that’s when medicare normally kicks in.

As a Senior, perhaps the first thing you’ll want to know is when to sign up?  You can call the Social Security office (check on-line for a local number: www.ssa.gov/reach.htm ) 3 months before your 65th birthday.  At this point, your retirement 'age' may not coincide with your medicare age - that's ok.

Information here, is about how medicare  and available supplements work together to provide seniors with health insurance, and information on the RX program introduced last year called Part D.  Listed below are some points of interest for seniors.

Medicare/supplements

First, know that Medicare itself WILL NOT COVER ALL of your healthcare needs as you age and have need for more health services.  So if you're not planning to get supplemental coverage now, there is a strong chance you'll need it at some point.

The government has defined the  Supplemental Plans (2007)  that insurance companies can offer seniors.  Supplemental plans have changed as of 1/1/2006!  Plans H, I, and J no longer be offered WITH prescription coverage beginning January 2006.  See Medicare Part D below.

Although the Supplemental Plans themselves are the same, the monthly premiums vary from insurance carrier to insurance carrier and not all carriers offer all 'available' plans.

2007 enrollment in Part D begins November 15th 2006 and runs through December 31st 2006.

On the  Supplemental Plans (2007) page, the Plan Coverage's are outlined and beyond that (on another page), we’ve included the monthly premium, per plan by age from several carriers.
